Yep it’s true I was there back in the 80′s. It’s about half way between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Har, that’s one old photo. We visited skinny dick several times on snow-mo. Everytime we arrived I asked if skinny dick was around and the answer was always – he’s sleeping or he is away on business.

I couldn’t let it rest and accused the bar tender of fraud, i proclaimed he died three years ago and you’re not tellin because it promotes more business.

Har, she laughed and bought us a round. Skinny was sleepin. (or was he?)

I lived there four years and never met the guy.

Halfway? Well, there’s a Skinny Dick’s Halfway Inn in Ester, AK, but it’s way closer to Fairbanks than it is to Anchorage. I think that photo is from the old gold mining days. My guess is Skinny Dick probably passed away way back then. He probably chose the name, other than its being kinda suggestive, to lure people up there making them think it’s really halfway when it isn’t half way at all! No skin off Skinny Dick!

Maybe, mahdee, half-way’s alive! Hear-say from a relate of the photographer seen him and talked to him. He claimed skinny was skinny and was dick but it sure made my friend laugh that i never laid eyes on him in that time of four years.

It is just outside of fairbanks, ester is right there close from becker ridge but i would venture Milt knows more than he’s telling.?

I’d say that’s right, ar, Skinny just not around these days. As I say, my bet is he died back in gold mining days. Another bit of evidence is the website! Yes, Skinny Dick (well, not him, his Inn) has a website. Try http://www.skinnydicksak.com. There’s photos there but none of what it looks like today. People mentioned but no mention of a Skinny Dick. I think Milt ought to take his photo to the Alaska Historical Society. Maybe there’s no skin off Milt, either.
