Bob Sherman, of Sherman-Media, is teaming up with Bitterroot Beagle Productions to create a documentary film (Elk in Peril) about a three-year study on elk to be spearheaded by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The study will take place in the Bitterroot National Park area of Western Montana with the goal of providing scientific evidence as to why elk cow to calf ratios are running 100:11.

This is a second in a series of interviews with Bob Sherman (Please find Interview #1 here). Bob updates listeners on the capture, sampling and collaring of 47 Bitterroot elk. We discuss preliminary data that shows elk age structure of the Bitterroot herd in the 6-12 year-age bracket, as well as discuss how politics might play a role in this three year study.

How many elk didthey run to death???

Jesus, I’ve heard of this type of trapping but can’t they be less intrusive, the If&g would arest us for harrasing the elk. The wolves probaly had a feast on the
elk the chopper crew stressed and chassed down.

Good question. I wondered the same thing; running them for nearly 5 minutes video time over that terrain?

There is no Bitterroot National Park; forest yes.

The thing is…..as long as the wolves don’t kill them, they can claim habitat. If they die of stress, they can claim habitat. If they are ran endlessly until their fat reserves are gone, they can claim habitat. If they are killed by wolves and they take three days getting their, they claim unknown.

Just another freaking waste of money, everyone with three working brain cells knows what are killing our elk cows and calves……

Chased by humans from the air to a point of exhaustion chased by wolves on the ground till exhausted. What a miserable life to have to live. We need more studies like this to justify an other non productive government job.

For elk, being chased by wolves on the ground is more natural than being chased by helicopter from the air.

You are right AB, it should be humans chasing wolves from the air in our evolved natural world.
