I got these pictures in my email yesterday from a reader. The information contained says the photos were taken near Golden Valley, North Dakota. The deer have reportedly hung out on this farm all winter (3 winters in a row) “uninvited”, eating up the hay, while dropped antlers are causing punctured tires.

Seems no one told these deer that a 75% over-story is needed for them to survive,plus they are eating HAY? Don’t they know that will kill them? Those deer wouldn’t make it long in Maine.

Hay will kill them? that’s just what Maine biologist told me one time. A forester that worked in Wisconsin years back said they used to drag hay in to feed deer during the winter. I suppose It’s the type of Hay. 100 % clover and maybe they’d do fine.
An yes? where’s the big mature softwood they’re supposed to need.

I have read several reports of elk coming down to the farms in rural Idaho, Montana and Wyoming – leaving the normal winter range. Have read several reports of deer moving into the suburbs in more and more places.
