I’ve told you before that I think Fall really starts September 1st. That marks the first of the fall seasons to start in the Midwest, dove season. Most years I hit the opener on one of the public fields managed by either Kansas or Missouri. This year it was a fantastic looking field not far from here that had several hundred doves when I scouted it Monday (with my scouting partner in our new backpack):

Unfortunately it started raining last night and didn’t quit until around noon. Doves don’t really fly in the rain. The Old Man and I ended up seeing a fraction of the doves I saw Monday but we also had less competition than I expected. We each needed a few when we quit around 10 as the rain ratcheted up again.

Considering the weather it wasn’t a bad was to start the 2010-2011 season. Hopefully I can add to it in the next several days.
