A tough end to the Missouri firearms season for me yesterday. I passed on a young 8 and several does but the only mature buck I saw was the guy above. He looks like a solid 3.5 year old 8 point in the 130ish range.

I’ve really started to enjoy the muzzleloader. I spent about an hour shooting it at 100 and then 200 yards trying to get a comfort level with the scope, recoil, and range. I’m thinking it might be fun to take it during the Kansas late antlerless season and see what it can do.

Hey Duk, when did you get into frontstuffers? They are fun. I first got an Omega, killed a few deer then got the Savage ML 2 that shoots smokeless. Great rifle.Put an Elite 4200 on it, bedded the laminated stock, installed limb saver pad. Clover leaf groups at 100 with Barnes 285 gr. boat tail and 43 gr. of 5744.

Is that English you’re speaking?

I bought the ML about 3 weeks ago with an eye towards that pesky non-resident Missouri tag I’ve got. I did some research and decided to get what I figured was the easiest possible thing for me to use. Sighting it in and practicing I’ve probably shot 20 shots or so, and so far I’ve liked it. I’m shooting (I think) 295 gr .50 cal somethings with 3 pyrodex pellets. In the off season I’ll play some with powder levels probably, but I ultimately want the flatest and fastest slug I can get.

I do like the idea of a laminate stock but I’ve got to decide if I’m in this for the long haul before I make too many gear upgrades. After all, next year I might kill that Missouri buck on opening day of the rifle season and then the ML never comes out of the safe…

I’d be more than happy for any advice you might give a newbie…
