It’s Not Rocket Science…
Posted by

I’ve been blessed in my life to have become friends with some absolutely brilliant people. James, or “The Colonel” as he used to write as, is an honest-to-god rocket scientist. We met in our mid-teens through a mutual friend and rented a place together during graduate school. He was in my wedding. He created the first The Daily Limit for me and kept it running through my technical ineptitude, even after he moved to Houston in order to work for NASA.

He created his own blog a while back called The Houston Chronicles which resides on my blogroll even though it was nearly dead for months at a time. Had we not all been scared for him as he rode out a hurricane I doubt if I would ever had mentioned it at all. Anyway, he reworked everything and has returned to blogging with occasional enthusiasm. Yesterday he gave us an introspective look at how he sees the future of NASA, Project Constellation, and the value of his own skill set. It’s well written and worth a look even if you’ve never met him, but for those of you out there who know James it’s even more thought provoking. Check it out here.

More Kansas Whitetails

Last weekend I caught a glimpse of an absolute stud buck. I tried to find him again the next morning with no sighting and then I had to hit the road for Western Kansas. Today CA-Chucky returns with high hopes and an unfilled tag. I’ll be holding out for that stud or one of better quality. We’ll also have another member of our regular elk hunting group down for this weekend, but his standards don’t tend to be that high. Hopefully we’ll have some bucks on the ground by Sunday…

The Future of Hunting?

I’ve never met Ms. Anastasia over at That’s Probably Not How it Happened but I found her blog through dn’s blogroll at Tornado Slide. Her writing generally makes me laugh and occasionally reminds me of Lawrence. Anyway, apparently she went on her first turkey hunt.

Everything about it was so cool. Even the fact that we sat in mud through torrential rains was just great. The guys were so nice, the farm was beautiful, the air was sweet, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with my first hunting trip.

Opening Day at The K

A friend and frequent source for legal appeals knowledge runs the blog Fountain Shots.

Unfortunately he’s a K-State fan, (and you know how I feel about K-State) but otherwise he’s a loyal fan of the local Kansas City teams. Anyway, he went to opening day at the renovated Kauffman Stadium yesterday and returned with some beautiful pictures. Take a look.

We’re back from our trip to Philly and DC. My best friend from kindergarten through college is in his final year of residency at University of Pennsylvania. My wife and I met up with him and his wife and baby boy and headed to DC for the weekend. Both wives had never been. We hit the usual sights including the museums and monuments.

I’ll be out of town for the next few days. In the mean time, check out dn over at Tornado Slide and his analysis of new baby names. It’s still making me laugh.

Skinny Moose has added another hunter/blogger to the lineup. Mostly Archery will focus on bowhunting and bowfishing, two of my favorite things!

He leads us off with a story about Kansas Spring Turkeys with a bow… that just happens to be the next thing on my radar! Take a look…

Texas Pigs

The Old Man and a member of our ill-fated journey to the artic north spent last weekend quail hunting in Southwest Texas with a friend who manages his land primarily for birds. Unfortunately the dry weather hurt their production and they only got into 8-10 coveys a day. So one evening they quit early and pig hunted.
