I’m not an Apple guy but I heard this on NPR the other day and really enjoyed it. He was one of the truly great minds of this period in history.
One of the truly great bowhunters of all time passed away today. Glenn St. Charles was one of the pioneers of archery as well as a quality hunter and ambassador. He was a founder of the Pope and Young Club and wrote one of the best hunting books I’ve ever read. I gave you a review of Bows on the Little Delta here.
You can find more information at the Archery Hall of Fame.
I get a pile of google hits regarding Tred and his health status. As such I thought I’d let you guys know that he is still out there making his show. He recently dropped by Bowsite and gave an interview with Pat.
The Washington Post recently ran a lengthy obit for an old German named Paul Schaefer who died at the age of 89. It turns out that old Paul wasn’t exactly the type of guy you look up to. He was:
- An evangelical preacher – I’d say hit or miss on this one;
- Who led, “the world’s most notorious anti-Semitic and apocalyptic sects” – not good.
- Who was serving 20 years for sexually abusing children – neither good, nor surprising.
- Suspected in the death of an American mathematician – weird, but definitely not good.
- Fought for the Luftwaffe in WWII – he was born in Germany, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here…
- Traveled the German country side preaching abstinence after the war – Red flag!
- Until he was accused of molesting two boys and fled to Chile – Of course.
- Allegedly tortured political dissidents during the rule of Pinochet – German roots run deep.
I could go on… read the piece yourself if you want to know all the details on what a quality human being he was. But here’s the fun part:
He had a glass eye, having accidentally gouged out his right eye while trying to untie a shoelace knot with a fork.
Perhaps it’s just bad luck, but I’d like to think there’s at least a little Karma working here…
I was driving down the road today scouting geese when this skit crossed my mind… specifically the final answer to the, “Is pimpin’ easy?” question… Even after several years it still makes me laugh…

The Colonel tipped me off to this photo set of decaying urban Detroit that is amazing. Check here.
I’m one of the few people who still reads the print newspaper every day. Sometimes I wonder why. Today the FYI section had an interesting graph comparing the money Avatar has made with other all-time revenue generating movies. It was essentially a copy of this graph:

The above chart came from here.
Maybe it’s not interesting… maybe it’s moderately interesting… I guess it’s up to you and what type of things you like to learn about and read. But then I looked closely at the chart in the KC star and found this footnote:
Note: Adjusted for inflation, “Avatar” ranks 26th in box office revenues.
WTF!?!?! So let me get this straight: You make a chart that appears to be designed to show that Avatar has made more money, faster, than any other movie… followed with a footnote that says, “nah, just kidding, how’s 26th sound?” Is this the type of thing that works because it’s in the FYI section of the Star? Or is perhaps because Americans have become increasingly math illiterate? Or maybe the author himself is one of those people who just, “doesn’t get math”? Or maybe I’m overreacting? But we’re not talking about Calc III here…
