As I sit here thinking about this Thanksgiving holiday weekend that is about to end, I again think how lucky I really am for my life and everything that is a part of it. I am so thankful for the people that have been and will be forever a part of everything I am.
This was the the first holiday without my dad. He left us back in August but yet I feel like he is still here. I had the duty of cooking the turkey that he would normally cook us. My version of the deep fried bird was well received by the rest of the family and I didnt burn up the house or nothing. Although I was a few hours late in getting it to the table. You see this was my first time deep frying a turkey and I didnt realize how long it took. I didnt know how much and how expensive peanut oil was either. One delay was I had to send my wife to Wal-Mart for another jug of oil. Then while cooking I realized that every year when my dad made me leave the woods early Thanksgiving day, was so he could get back to the house to fry up the dang bird (thats what I always said when he said time to go.. “that dang bird messing with my hunting”….) It seemed like it took as long for the oil to heat up as it did to cook the dang bird too. Which was another reason it took so long to eat.
Anyways, the taste of the deep fried turkey has a new meaning now, it will remind me a how P.O.’d Id get every year on Thanksgiving day when me and my dad had to leave the woods early so he could cook that old dang bird.
The next holiday is really going to be hard on the family. My dad was crazy when it came to decarating for Christmas. The power company loved him. I think he paid for all their bonuses they get at the end of the year….. Anyways, we have about a half million lights to put up and I just realized I have another thing to be thankful about. I will never ever have to buy any more Christmas light ever again. We got all of my dads lights, so theres enough to go crazy, just like he did…
Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one and I hope your Hoilday Season is a safe and happy one.
Later,
Mike Bell
