HER OUTDOORS WITH DAOUTFITTERS
Returning to www.daoutfitters.com after my past visit to the all female deer hunt in October was a much anticipated event. Being a true-blooded turkey hunter, the area that DAO calls their own showed nothing short of prime turkey hunting property and I had nothing but high expectations of my first out of state turkey hunt. Bringing my fiance for his first ever turkey hunt would be a hunt I was sure to remember due to the excitement I love to share with new hunters. The weather did not seem to want to bring the birds out of the roost due to the rain, but we would be patient set up in an old tobacco barn out of the elements. John placed a hen decoy about 25 yards in the open field in front of the barn and we sat out the rain. Birds were gobbling in the roost and knowing they were there was excitement enough to keep us on our toes. It wasnt long after John began to talk to the birds again that a short break in the rain hit and John, being more to the left of the set up, alerted us to the approaching bird…or birds as I was to quickly see. My nervousness grew about ten times over, excited that we may have the chance at a double but scared that I would screw up the entire hunt due to the new hunter to my right wanting him to harvest his first bird. John did an amazing job with decoy placement and calling. The birds came right in to the decoy. The 1…2…3… shoot went flawlessly, sounding as if one shot was made and both birds hit the Kentucky dirt!
Much thanks to John and the DAO crew for a hunt neither of us will ever forget!
