And it probably won’t be… that is, the push to ban lead ammunition in parts of California.

This article in the Monterey Herald points out that the CA Fish and Game Commission will be meeting tomorrow (Friday the 13th) to reconsider the proposal one more time.  This thing has more lives than Freddy Kruger and Michael Myers put together!

Meanwhile, according to this article in the Cape Cod Times,  in Cape Cod, the ban on lead ammo on the National Guard’s Camp Edwards base will be lifted.  However, bullet traps will be implemented to collect the spent bullets downrange, keeping them out of the groundwater and environment.

While the hunting issues in CA may seem to be the hot topic, I’d keep an eye on the issue of lead ammo at shooting ranges around the country.  This is where the biggest impact truly is, and I believe this is where the changes in the shooting sports will come from.

Stay tuned, as I’ve finally found some time to load and test the Barnes TSX bullets for my 30-06.  The reports are excellent from all sources so far, but I like to get the info for myself.

In parting, let me say it one more time… lead ammo is on the way out.  I’d recommend preparing yourself early, unless you want to be caught in the lurch.  There are some good alternatives now, and more coming.  As the market for this stuff improves, the prices will moderate and the choices will increase.
