I’ve always had pretty ambivalent feelings about the hunting and fishing shows on TV. Until the recent debacle between Dish Networks and the Men’s Outdoors and Recreation (MOR) channel, I have to admit that I watched my fair share of hunting programs.
I often justified my vice by sitting in judgment of each show, calling out the bad (gut shots, bad shot angle, shooting too far, etc.) and lauding the well-done (public land hunts, kids’ hunts that emphasize fair chase, etc.). The fact is, though, I was watching. It kept me sane at times when I couldn’t get away to hunt for myself, and sometimes kept me entertained as well.
Anyway, the minds behind TNN (The Nashville Network) and CMT (Country Music Television) have combined forces to bring over 80 outdoors television programs to the Internet. If, like me, your options for seeing these shows are limited to whatever your cable or satellite company is willing to carry, this is a great opportunity to view and review a whole pile of outdoors-oriented programming.
The movement of traditional television channels toward digitization and the Internet has been a topic of interest to me for a long time. It’s pretty inevitable that the lines will be blurred, until entertainment becomes just another self-service, on-demand product and traditional, commercial-based programming becomes something of the past. Some folks believe it’s happening faster than others, but I do believe the time is coming. As soon as the major players can figure out how to make it profitable, they’ll all be surging ahead.
Anyway, if you’re a fan of outdoors programming, or just curious, check out My Outdoor TV online now. You’ll want a fast connection and plenty of time. If you’re like me, you won’t be able to tune in and drop right back out… you’ll be there for a while.
