I came across your video of the Tejon Ranch, I do know they have been making changes down there since I was last there. I didn’t catch if you were in the North or South area for the Ham Slam weekend. Congratulations on your video, it really perked my spirits as economy here is not so well, anyhow, I booked a trip for Feb 1-3, 2008 with my friend and had to cancel it at the last minute due to an illness in his family (I booked this a year in advance and needless to say I was extremely bummed out). My question is: do you think a person with knowledge of Tejon, with a 350 4×4 towing a jeep can go it alone there. My wife is concerned as my hunting buddies are not consistant and I want to hunt regardless. My wife has saw the video and not to put any pressure on you but I do need honesty, I don’t have any more buddies that hunt and my wife really is not into boar hunting (and I have not seen any women at the 3 hunts I have been to there). Brian, we hunted the South Side for our hunt. I’ve hunted both sides of the ranch, but I know the South side best, so I hunt there as often as possible.
If you know Tejon, you can definitely do just fine there on your own. The biggest thing, of course, is personal safety. What kind of physical condition are you in? Can you handle 1000 foot climbs? Can you carry 75lbs of meat on your back, or drag a 200lb dead-weight? If you have heart or back problems, a solo hunt at Tejon may not be the best choice.
Anytime you hunt solo, you need to consider the choices you make, such as climbing in rough terrain or driving some of the more marginal roads. Your jeep will be fine. Leave that 350 in camp…it’s too big and heavy for the backroads on the ranch.
Also, keep in mind that you’re almost never alone on the ranch. Some of the areas are kind of isolated, but there are almost always other hunters, guides, and ranch hands on the property.
If you’re really concerned about hunting solo, join us in May with the Jesse’s Hunting and Outdoors gang. We tend to look out for one another on these hunts, and nobody is left on their own unless they want it that way.

Once again Phillip, Most enjoyable and you are absolutely right about the true heart and spirit of getting out there on foot and enjoying Mama Nature up close and personal!
I sometimes will not see the:(Forest For The Trees) just the same as I did while engaged in the music business for nearly 30 years. The (Business) part of it all, caused me to constantly think in commercial terms, so much so that I began to lose track of why I got into music in the first place. And that was the enjoyment of just simply playing it.
Your efforts to convey the spirit of the hunt are quite on track. Please keep up the fine work!
