Heya Rich,

I've shot a couple with the .44 and it did the trick quite handily. I've heard of a few guys who used .357 at reasonable ranges with good success too, but that seems to be on the edge.

The .45ACP is not sufficient as a primary hog gun, in my opinion, and with factory loads, I'd even go so far as to say the .45Long Colt is on the edge (closer to the .357).

Of course, as anyone will tell ya, it's all about where you put it, right? I hate hearing that. If folks will use something that allows a little leeway, we'd have a lot less horror stories about charges, hurt hunters and dogs, and lost animals. Despite a hunter's best efforts, the bullet doesn't always go where you wanted it to.

Used to take a few guys pig hunting and a few used handguns. I can remember a guy with a .44 and he got his smallish pig at about 10 yards - maybe a 50 pounder. A guy with a .45 shot his pig five times - tortured it to death. It weighed about 150 pounds.

Another hunter wounded his pig with a 7mm magnum and tried to finish it off with his .357 magnum. Would have worked except he was shooting wad cutters. That pig was quite upset when I finished if off with my shotgun.

[...] New handgun for hog hunters? Chambered in .600 Nitro Express, this is truly a hand-cannon! It’s created by the Austrian company, Pfiefer Waffen, and can actually be purchased if you have about $16,000 dollars laying around. [...]

Hey Albert, are you attending on a Media or Press pass?

Range day is only open to Media pass holders. There are actually about three individual events, S&W, Winchester/Browning/Springfield Armory, and one sponsored by other organizations (like 4-H and BassPro) that spotlights several other manufacturers. There may be more, but I don't have all the invites.

Philip,

I'll be at the Shot Show, but I didn't realize they were having a "Range Day." I'll definately have to look into that!

Thanks,
