I'm right there with you on this one, Phillip. I'm cautious, but I'm not alarmed whatsoever. If you listened to the media, though, you'd think that this flu is going to wipe all of us off the map in a matter of days.

This is a tricky one.

It's easy to pooh-pooh, particularly in light of SARS, Bird Flu, and other epidemics that really turned out to be pretty minor in the big picture.

But at the same time, you can't turn your back on it. You have to keep your eyes open.

The whole thing reminds me of lessons learned from living in the hurricane zone. The media generates this intensive hysteria every time a cloud starts to swirl, and most of the time it turns out to be just another storm. But the moment folks get complacent, you get another Hurricane Andrew situation.

Common sense and vigilance... there's really not much else we can do anyway.

I agree!
Most people will get (Internet Panicked) over the simplest of concerns and then amplify that panic when they send out their e-mail blasts.

The Swine flu reared its ugly head back in 1918 when (before the internet of course) it was rumored that our government was experimenting with an actual Swine virus combined with an Avian virus to create a lethal cocktail of sorts for germ warfare.

There are people now who are perpetuating those very same rumors, that the virus is now being used as a scare tactic to compel the worlds populace to line up for mandatory inoculations (of who knows what) against it.
Then of course comes the F.E.M.A. controlled camps etc. etc.

All of this conspiracy theory rhetoric really gives me a monster headache which will ultimately be what actually kills me.

if the Swine Flu is anything like the other scares and outbreaks in the US, it shouldn't amount to much (I'm hoping anyway)
