Woohoo!  Here it comes!

One week from today, at about this time, I’ll be waking up in my hotel room, and getting ready for the first event of the 2010 Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trades (SHOT) Show in lovely Las Vegas!  At 0800, I’ll board a bus with a pack of other outdoors writers, photographers, and videographers to head out to the pre-show “Range Day”.  This is where the outdoors media get their chance to get some hands-on time with the new guns, ammo, and optics from all of the major manufacturers. 

I have to confess that this is my favorite part of attending SHOT, although the rest of the show is pretty impressive as well.  Imagine, the largest hunting and shooting oriented trade show in the world, and an opportunity to get a preview of the hottest new developments in the industry, as well as the legends.    It’s also a chance to rub shoulders (sometimes literally) with some of the great outdoors writers, television personalities, and movers and shakers. 

My primary purpose for the trip is to get a look at new products and ideas so that I can come back here and write about them for all of you.  As usual, I’ll be looking for new offerings in the lead-free ammo department.  I’ll also be trying to figure out my prediction for the hot new trend of the year.  In past years that’s included innovations such as the adjustable trigger (Savage brought it to the fore with the Accu-Trigger) and synthetic stocks.  The past couple of years showed us the trend toward the “AR” platform in sporting arms, and I expect to see that represented heavily at this year’s show. 

But beyond that, I’m not sure what else I’ll be looking for.  Is there anything that you, Hog Blog readers, would like to hear more about?  A new gun you’ve been hearing rumored?  New camo patterns?  Ammo?  It’ll be there, and I’m more than happy to take a look at it for you!  Just sing out.
