Hmmm, I am tempted in buying this. I mean what is $29 dollars. Even if you had to buy it every year it would be worth it. Having knowledge of all guns is imperative for any gun enthusiast.

I may have over-stated the "weakness" in this reference.

A firearm reference database will never be "out of date". The guns don't go away, nor do the thousands of existing models change. So as a reference for existing models, this database will stay relevant.

The only thing it doesn't capture is the new models that are released two or three times per year. That's a gap, to be sure, but the data on the file is never obsolete.

So, for example, if I were writing a novel and wanted to include some data about a .50BMG "sniper rifle", I could turn to any of the 67 models listed in the current database for some great and detailed information... right down to the velocity and trajectory of a specific bullet at 1000 meters. Sure, maybe next year Bushmaster will release a new model that isn't covered in the data set. It'd be nice to have that update, but it certainly doesn't invalidate the information already on the disc.

I'm with Norcal on this one. I can't believe that they don't offer the option to update this information online. I realize you might have to pay a fee in order to do so, but to have that as an option would be an added bonus, especially for the gun and ballistics illiterate like myself.

That does sound like a cool reference. But I think they missed the boat on your last point: Something like that is out-of-date almost immediately; it would be a much better resource online, where you could access updates immediately. Of course, the hard part then would be figuring out how to get people to pay for it.
