What a weekend!

It’s a job, huh? I’ve done a few elk and a couple of other “big” critters, but never tackled anything like this buffalo. The mechanics are basically the same, but there’s just a lot more of it!

Just got the call… looks like we’re on for a couple more this weekend.

If I ever get around to doing a bison hunt myself, that’s the environment I’d like to do it in. I understand the hunt in Utah’s Henry Mountains is pretty awesome as well, but I’ve never bothered to sign up. One day… right?

Arthur, fortunately, we didn’t have to pack this one out. We were able to get the trucks down to him and load him up on a trailer. I can only imagine the kind of job Alex had up there in Wyoming.

The clients were happy, though.

As far as animals reacting to the shot, I’ve found that a lot of times when you can make a quick, clean kill with a single shot, other animals in the herd often seem to ignore it… especially when you’re a hundred yards or more away. I’ve had pigs keep right on feeding when I or a client whacks one. Even deer will sometimes do the same thing.

But bison are a trip, because they are very social and very protective of the herd. It reminded me a little bit of watching video of elephant hunts, where the rest of the herd try their best to get the fallen back to his feet.
