I just got a press release in my email this morning about this new “game” at a place called Spirit Ridge Rifle Golf. I bounced over to the website to learn more. Here’s part of what it says:
Rifle golf is a new sport designed to help you practice your skills and become a better shooter in a real-life environment as you move from target to target — using an ATV instead of a golf cart! Our unique golf-style scoring system makes the range more competitive and provides a fun way to assess your shooting skills.
In short, the game is a complex marksmanship range, set up to mirror “realistic” hunting situations. Think of it as sporting clays for rifle hunters. The targets are set up at several distances (from about 175 to 1200 yards) and angles, and is designed to challenge the skills of many different levels of marksman. It doesn’t look like it’s all that expensive either. A single event will run $50, while a season pass is $400. I didn’t see a specific season on the website, but their events schedule runs from July through November.
Check out the promotional video:
Even though it’s way the heck out in Utah, I have to say I’m pretty excited about the whole idea. If I got half a chance, I’d be out there in a heartbeat. Even though I’ve never been too crazy about long range hunting, shooting at targets in a setting like this is an experience I could definitely embrace. Might be time to consider a weekend trip across the Great Basin!
Interested? Check out the Spirit Ridge Rifle Golf website for information on making reservations, the equipment you’ll need (mostly your gun and ammo), and upcoming events schedule.

Somebody with land needs to do this in CA. One would think somebody with a few thousand acres down in Hollister or thereabouts could add some residual income when the cattle are out during the summer. The lack of >200yd shooting the in the Bay Area is frustrating.
