I have recently wrote about a couple of shooting ranges that are facing pressure from local communities as well as state agenicies. I received an email from my friend out east Bob Rich of the Bob Rich Shooting Journal and in the email was his concern for the Blue Trail Shooting Range in CT.
Here is an portion of his blog post on the subject:
If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I am very concerned and angry that the state had been trying to close down the Blue Trail Range in Wallingford CT for several weeks. I went to the DEP web site and it said that the 100 and 200 yard ranges have been temporarily closed. Today I decided to take a run over to check it out for myself and to sign a petition if one was available. I was very upset to see that the ENTIRE range was closed and would remain so until at least next Friday.
This all started when some people who built houses downrange complained that they had a few slugs in their siding. There’s no proof where the bullets originated. Who’s to say that the shots didn’t come from the hill across the street from the range? I’m not accusing anyone of this, but it’s a distinct possibility. Isn’t it also possible that some ‘anti’s’ could have visited the range at any time, day or night, and fired the rounds in an attempt to get the range shut down? It’s all too easy to frame the range. There’s no proof where the rounds originated, yet they were still shut down. It’s my understanding that the range has been there for over 40 years. If that’s true, then the houses were very likely built long after the range was established and the houses should be taken down. That goes for the hiking trails as well. There are hiking trails all over the state, but shooting ranges and hunting areas are precious few. The police and military train at this range and have done so for years. This range stands as a monument to our second amendment right to bear arms and must be protected.
Once again, why do people blame their stupidity on someone else. Don’t move next to a gun range if you don’t want to hear it or you feel that you home is in danger! Why should a long standing legal establishment have to go, because someone moved in and doesn’t like it? This is such horse hockey it is unbelievable. In today’s society, everyone blames everyone else for their problems. Hey buddy who moved in next to the range, admit your mistake and MOVE!!!!! Let someone else who might want to live next to a fine shooting range move in. If it is in the line of fire, then sue the community zoning board for allowing the house to be built there in the first place. Or better yet, if they felt is was safe to build there, then move the community government building there! Guys this is what kind of idiots we are up against with respect to our 2nd amendment rights.
Bob also informed me that the NRA is taking action in trying to stop this, they are sending a representative to a meeting this Friday on the issue. What is worriesome is the fact that this is going to turn into a legal battle and the range owner has to foot the bill to defend himself. This is a way that these big groups fight the small guys. They don’t have to win the court case if they can just bankrupt them in litigation. They are asking for help and donations in fighting this battle. You can view their site and read more about this on their web site www.bluetrailrange.com . Another way you can help to support them or help in the overall battle in this fight against our 2nd amendment freedoms is to join the NRA! It will cost you $10 a year for the basic membership without the magazine. Is $10 a year worth your 2nd amendment rights? The extra $1000 worth of insurance coverage on your firearms is worth the $10 alone. The help in protecting your 2nd amendment rights is PRICELESS! Join today and if you did, let us know, we want to hear from you guys! If you’re already signed up then sign up a spouse, child, or friend as a gift membership. Click here to Join NOW!
