According to the Michigan AP Newswire the Michigan Baiting Ban that has been implemented in the lower peninsula is now PERMANENT! This means that there is NO end to it. The Michigan DNR can leave it in place as long as they deem necessary. The ban was originally for a 6 month time frame, but now has no end in sight. The DNR always had the option to extend it if they felt it necessary, but now they can decided if and when they want to lift it.

This is going to cause more outrage on from the hunting community. I hope the DNR has a plan to try and convince our sportsman this is the right thing to do.

What a mess. I hope they’re pushing for federal funds to subsidize the farmers that are going to get hit hard by this…

I wonder what their reasoning is to make it permanent. I can’t see where the have had enough time to get enough facts to justify making it permanent. Deerhtn is right what a mess and will that also include the UP? I sure hope that they know what they are doing and I hope this wasn’t a decision that was made for polictical reasons. I guess only time will tell.

Do you think the number of hunters will be down this year?? Would that also reduce the harvest? The DNR says No! We’ll have to wait and see now. If harvest numbers reduce..what is their plan to deal with an overpopulated herd? While I am not a biologist, I do have science in my educational background..and I do not understand how all this is going to work out… I have many many questions.

I would hope that the number of hunters would not be down but I guess we will just have to see what the numbers are. I’m sure that a big chunk of hunters have already bought their tags so we might not see that big of reduction in license sales till next if there will be any. I would venture a guess that it will reduce the number of deer killed until hunters that hunted heavily over bait learn new tactics to hunt without bait. I guess we will have to wait as see what happens.

WOW what A blow to Michigan deer hunters. Miss Obama said it was the first time she was proud of her country what A shame. But this is also the first time I am not proud to be A Michigan hunter. As hunters we need change. The D.N.R. that demands are respect needs to be revampied. There is always problems with them and how we hunt it’s there way or no way. And that has finely got to me. Look fellow hunters. We as hunters pay thur tax dollars and license to have a say and have none.They have a right to come on your land any time they want. They can look thur your windows if they want anytime day or night. No warent needed. Thats all they need is to say we had a report of a game vialation.That is scarey. Hunters need to regulate there sport. Voted in by hunters.I got kicked off Michigan Sportsman for this reply on there Blog.Here we go. D.N.R. Sends hunters out in the woods with white tags pined to there backs. Smart Move? <{old hunter} D.N.R head takes famaily And friends out for joy rides on D.N.R. boats. Smart Move? or should I say are boats TAX Dollars. No punishment. D.N.R.Heads get caught cheating on elk and bear permits.Smart Move? On this one there was punishment not to The D.N.R. Well, as we all know this blind sided and last minute rule the DNR installed is unreal. Many other options and ideas could have been looked at. I ask how in God’s name would a deer in Kent county being infected have any issue on a Mackinaw County Deer? Unless deer are driving farther and farther to gain the food, water and reproduction mission that is in placed in the continued population I see this an example of Lansings (DNR’s) over educated guess game of no value. It will cause many hardships and farms to fail. Imagine if Lansing said a single Ford Mustang was found to have an issue with break system. Lansing said well all we can do is outlaw all drivers mobilized with the Mustang to park and not drive any longer………silly, well sure…..DNR’s ban on bait silly? Well sure it is. Folks it was one deer in one area…….I am not nearly as educated as the Lansing DNR crew but please….I beg for some plain easy to use brain cells get a challenge. Lock down the county with the issue and maybe all neighbor counties at most. Then monitor it very close and take action or not gained by basic data and lesson learned. Seems very simple to me am I the dumb one here? I bet the auto insurance folks will lobby Lansing hard when they are bombed with a huge influx of car deer accidents they have to pay out this fall and winter. I will bet the auto insurance folks and all the legal staff they employee help out the hunters on this fight. My last point is that if we would like to gain, pass on, improve and maintain a great hunter population we had better understand part of the reason many hunt is to harvest a deer. With my bow I am much less likely to get a chance to harvest if I can’t have a little bait to help the deer close enough to give me a chance at a close and humane kill shot. Ok, that is my 2 cents…….tell me I am wrong…….

It seems to me the “Game Farms” need to be elimintated at once,,thats where all the disease starts anyway,,,,why do we need them????
