Here lately I’ve noticed a lot of people have been searching for Michigan campgrounds that allow winter camping. I found a site on the Michigan DNR’s website that lists all state park campgrounds along with the ability to make on-line reservations.

The site is searchable for all state park campgrounds along with the time of year they are open and all the amenities they offer. There are some that allow winter camping here in Michigan. The list includes: Algonac, Bay City State Park, Fort Custer, Ludington, Mitchell, North Higgins Lake State Park, Rifle River Recreation Area, Tahquamenon Falls, Traverse City, Waterloo Recreation Area-Portage campground. Both Mitchell and Traverse City have heated restrooms which is a plus on those cold winter days!  Also check the DNR’s web site “Go-Get Outside” for state park activities and events planned throughout the year.

So for those brave enough to sleep in the cold, head over to the DNR site to make your winter reservations!  Remember as of January you need the new 2009 state park stickers!
