If you plan on hunitng deer this season in Minnesota, you should be aware of a state law that might stop you in your tracks if you purchase your deer license after the season starts.  I was looking through some stories over at the NRA Hunter’s Rights website and came across this story that simply made no sense to  me what so ever.

According to the Minnesota game laws, if you purchase your deer license after the first day of deer season, you must wait one full day or 24 hours before you can hunt!  The reason the MDNR gives for this law is that they don’t want people to hunt without a license and shoot a deer, only to go and purchase a kill tag after they poach a deer.  That is the dumbest thing I have heard.  If anyone is going to poach a deer this law will not stop them from illegally shooting a deer.  It only penalizes the true ethical deer hunters.

If someone decides at the last minute that they would like to go hunting they can’t purchase a license and go, they must wait an extra day.  If your from out of state and plan a last minute trip, you loose an extra day of hunting when you purchase your license after the season starts.  If you want to hunt the last couple of days of the season you can’t since you have to wait the mandatory time before you can go afield.

Not only do you have to wait, but there is some confusion as to how long you actually have to wait.  In one section of the game law code it states 24 hours.  In another section of the code it states one full day which is from midnight to midnight.  So which is it?  If it is the later and you purchase your hunting licnese at 6pm after work on a friday on your way to camp, forget the weekend hunt.  It wouldn’t be until Sunday morning until you could hit the woods.  I can’t see how this stupid law keeps people from poaching deer, or am I missing something here?  I for one will not be spending my hard earned hunting dollars in the state of Minnesota!
