Sportsman Channel is pleased to announce they are a finalist in the 2010 Beacon Awards competition for their Hunt.Fish.Feed. initiative for 2009/2010. Sponsored by the Association of Cable Communicators (ACC), the national Beacon Awards competition recognizes excellence in communications and public affairs throughout the country.
“As the leader in outdoor programming for the American sportsmen, we are very proud of the efforts made by our talented staff towards Hunt.Fish.Feed. to deliver a hot meal to those in need,” said Gavin Harvey, Sportsman’s CEO. “This event has had a positive impact on the communities we visited, not just for the day, but everlasting due to the attention we’ve brought to this need.”
Hunt.Fish.Feed. is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source-game meat and fish donated by sportsmen-to feed those struggling with hunger across America. Sportsman Channel has hosted a multi-city Hunt.Fish.Feed. tour in 2008, 2009 and 2010 to feed the needy and bring awareness to the fight against hunger. To date Hunt.Fish.Feed. has served nearly 10,000 meals.
In cities where Sportsman Channel has visited, shelter leaders have praised the mission of Hunt.Fish.Feed. At Sportsman Channel’s most recent stop in San Diego, Father Joe Carroll of St. Vincent de Paul Village said, “We are pleased to be partnering with Sportsman Channel to bring this unique Hunt.Fish.Feed. program to our community, This is another positive example of how organizations and communities can reach out to help those in need.”
Fifty-three cable communications and public affairs professionals chose the 2010 Beacon Award finalists during an extensive, two-phase judging process. The number of high quality Beacon Award entries submitted continues to demonstrate the cable industry’s commitment to communications and public affairs and represent company initiatives implemented over the past year in areas such as community relations, education, competitive communications, multicultural public relations and social media communications.
The winners of the 2010 Beacon Awards will be announced during the Beacon Awards Luncheon and Ceremony on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Hilton New York concluding ACC’s Annual Conference FORUM 2010: Competition Everywhere.
“Finalist status is truly an outstanding achievement, and the requirements to become a finalist are more demanding than ever before. These award-winning projects reflect the cable industry’s strong commitment to communications and public affairs and continuing efforts to provide quality entertainment, technological advances, and educational initiatives to communities across the country,” said Steven R. Jones, executive director, ACC.
