I announced this morning that Governor Baldacci was going to address the leaders of the Katahdin region as well as the general public, in Millinocket today about Roxanne Quimby and the Katahdin Lake land purchase. Much to my surprise and delight, republican hopeful to the Blaine House, Chandler Woodcock is stirring.

One of my biggest complaints I’ve had about the Woodcock campaign has been silence. Is this foolishness going on about the Katahdin land swap and the newly purchased 23,000 acres by Roxanne Quimby that essentially landlocks the public lands, enough to stir the fire in him?

Perhaps! The Magic City Morning Star has a story of Woodcock speaking out against Baldacci and his tactics on the Katahdin land debacle.

“Today, John Baldacci announced that a new road across public land will provide continued access to the nearly 2,000 acres placed in jeopardy by the Quimby purchase. This temporary fix is an attempt to ease the concerns of sportsmen across Maine, but this announcement falls short.

“John Baldacci’s re-election campaign cannot spin this simple fact: Sportsmen in Maine have lost access to thousands of acres of land in the North Maine Woods under John Baldacci’s Katahdin Lake Project. It was a bad deal for Maine people when John Baldacci signed the bill, and it is a bad deal today. This is yet another attempt to compensate for poor public policy.”

Land holdings map for Roxanne QuimbyWhat road across public lands? I want to see this mapped out and spelled out. The maps I have seen, which I understand cannot exactly define all the small spaces in that region, do not should how access can be gain across public lands unless the road he speaks of building is across land within Baxter State Park or part of the 4,000 acres that will become part of the park with the finalization of the land swap. *see map below*

In plain English, I don’t believe him and I don’t believe most everything that has been made public about this entire fiasco. I think imformation is being deliberately withheld from Maine residents in an attempt to get these deal pushed through. Maine people need to speak up and be heard. Demand answers now!
