The coyote for most of us is a newcomer to the state and coming on strong. The coyote has expanded over the entire state and there isn’t a single county that doesn’t have a coyote in it. Controlling the population is important and hunting is a very good way to help control them. Many of us have little or no experience hunting them and are not really sure how to go about it.
I’ve just become aware that this Saturday there will be a free Predator 101 Hunting class offered at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education.
Sat., Feb. 17 • 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Are you looking for a way to do some off-season scouting for whitetail deer or wild turkey while at the same time keeping your hunting skills honed? If so, you should give predator hunting a try. With the resurgence of whitetail deer, wild turkey, and other wildlife populations across North Carolina in recent years, the coyote population has flourished as well. Predator hunting is a means of keeping coyote populations in check and also provides an additional hunting opportunity while other seasons are closed. This program, led by an avid predator hunter, presents basic techniques and strategies for the set up, calling, and legal harvesting of the wily coyote. Participant input and questions are welcomed. Ages 10 and up.Admission: Free. Pre-registration Required 828-877-4423
