Dr. Tim Langer is a bear biologist as well as an instructor at NC State University was appointed to the board by Speaker of the House Joe Hackney.

The 19-member board establishes policy and regulations governing hunting, fishing and boating activities in North Carolina. Members serve until reappointed or replaced. Appointments are made by the Governor, the Speaker of the State House and the President Pro-tem of the State Senate.

His appointment to a board that at times seems to be at odds with the biologists and staff when it comes to game management could be a breath of fresh air.

“I’m honored to have been considered by the speaker,” Langer said. “It’s a credit to Mr. Hackney to break the mold, to appoint an academic and increase the diversity of this board.

I’m hopeful that with his appointment in the future some sense can be brought to the bear regulations here in the state. Currently the regulations are written in such a manner to favor dog hunting over still hunting and a more even handed approach would be better for all hunters.
