The drought along with low humidity and high winds on Sunday contributed to hundreds of brush fires across the state. With winds gusting in the 30-40 mph it didn’t take much to get the fires going and a lot of forest land burned up as a result. NC Division of Forest Resources reported that over 9,000 Acres burned this weekend.
With the severe drought we are under fire danger will remain a concern for all of us across the state. Fire is not all bad and when used properly as a management tool it helps improve the forest for a lot of critters. Wildfires like we experienced this weekend can do a lot of damage as well as put lives at risk. We all should work to prepare our homes for potential brush and wildfires and have a plan of escape if the unthinkable happens to us this spring.
