North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Enforcement Division has charged Jordan Owens and Victor Calder both of Goldsboro NC with Night Deer Hunting and have seized a gun, spotlight and deer.
Last week the internet was burning up with the story of a first time deer hunter killing a buck of a lifetime in Wayne County. Part of this was fueled by countless people seeing and photographing this buck in Goldsboro and posting it on the net. As the hunter showed it off across the city.
Obviously at some point part of their story or the fatal wound on the deer tip wildlife officials that all was not on the up and up. One thing I noticed early on the photo with the two men in the back of the truck with the buck was it appeared to be nighttime and the amount of blood in the bed of the truck appears to be significantly less then what appears in latter photos.
In less than a day the trophy of a lifetime became evidence in a poaching case and a spectacular buck will never enter the record books if the charges are substantiated.
What a shame if these men are convicted I hope the book is thrown at them. There is no doubt that the quality of bucks in the state seems to be improving.
The net continues to burn up with a lot of rumors about this case and I’ll try to follow it and update when additional information is available.
