It seems hard to believe that it has been 10 years since that dreadful day and a lot more heroes have paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and free. In the days following 9/11 we began to start to understand the sacrifices rescuers in NY made trying to help people in the towers. News stories showed people standing and clapping as fire and police rode in and out of Ground Zero as the days of recovery went on. What a tough task they had. Given what happened I bet none of us would of believed that just 10 years latter many of those heroes would be excluded from memorial service at Ground Zero to make room for politicians.
If that was not enough the exclusion of religious leaders and removing our faith from the ceremonies to happen latter this morning is also offensive. In those days after 9/11 our faith is what sustained us and it’s sad that our political leaders are ignoring or discounting that fact.
In the days following the attack I got a memory bracelet with NY Fire Department Capt Daniel Brethel’s name on it. I’ve blogged about Capt. Brethel a number of times and while I never knew him I’m humbled by his and his and the rest of the heroes actions on that day. I pray for his family especially on the anniversary every year. Here is a video his family did to share a little bit more about Capt. Dan
