This past Sunday 60 Minutes did a story about how many extinct or nearly extinct exotic game animals are thriving on game ranches in Texas. Why are they thriving? Because they are valuable to hunters who want the opportunity to hunt them and will pay ranchers for that opportunity. Of course the anti wacko’s are working to end this practice which would be the demise of many of these animals. A rancher needs to be able to make a living and raising critters that no longer have a monetary value to him isn’t going to happen for long. As long as they can sell some hunts these herds will flourish and thrive take that away and they will die off. The wacko’s show how crazy and logical they are when they argue against allowing these game ranches to continue.

The case for hunting and the standard of fair chase

Restoring these animals to their native lands….hunting and hunters help fund these efforts.

The full 60 Min Story (note this is a lengthy clip and on some pc’s may take a while to load)

Animals die everyday whether of old age, disease, hunting by humans, hunting by another animal, and countless other ways. Life is sustained only through the death of another living thing be it a pod of peas being eating in a stir fry at an unscaled restaurant or a wolf munching on a moose calf in the Alaskan tundra. The Circle of Life. The wackos can oppose this all they want but they can’t stop it.

I encountered my first wolf in the wild in Alaska

The Grey opened this weekend with a better then expected opening;

topped the weekend box office with $20 million, according to studio estimates Sunday, continuing the actor’s success as an action star in the winter months.

The Alaskan survivalist thriller opened above expectations with a performance on par with previous Neeson thrillers “Taken” and “Unknown.” Those films, both January-February releases, opened with $24.7 million and $21.9 million, respectively.

But the R-rated “The Grey,” which has received good reviews, drove home the strong appeal of Neeson, action star.

Houston Chronicle

Animal Rights Wackos are up and arms about this movie believing it will turn the average person’s view against the wolf. While the movie is made with computer generated wolves it seems the film crew and cast dined on wolf provided by a trapper to experience what that was like. Of course these Animal Right Wackos are up in arms about that but I’m sure it matters not to them if the crew dinned on wolf or fried chicken.

Director Joe Carnage—oh, excuse me … Carnahan—ordered wolf carcasses flown in for the cast to eat so that the actors would “have a sense of the movie we were making.” He bought the meat from a trapper, meaning that the wolves likely suffered horribly in traps before being killed.

Not surprisingly, Liam Neeson, no friend to animals, was game for eating wildlife.
The Big, Bad Wolf

A film that has the potential to scare more people than “Little Red Riding Hood,” The Grey portrays these intelligent, family-oriented animals the same way in which Jaws portrays sharks. The writers paint a pack of wolves living in the Alaskan wilderness as bloodthirsty monsters, intent on killing every survivor of a plane crash by tearing each person limb from limb. Yet wolves aren’t aggressive animals, and as Maggie Howell, the managing director of America’s Wolf Conservation Center, says, “Wolves don’t hunt humans—they actually shy away from them.”

Don’t just shy away—run away from The Grey.

PETA Files
While I don’t believe I’d eat wolf I have no problem if others want to.
These critters are not cuddly and friendly as some would present but are they frightful as they have been presented in some movies? Probably not but they are a dangerous animal that have and will kill humans. I plan to go see this movie much like I did when I saw Jaws when it came out. I’ll admit that summer swimming was a bit unnerving thinking a Great White might get me …..I wonder if I’ll be looking over my shoulder after seeing this movie every time I enter the woods? Probably not cause I’m usually armed.

Animal Rights groups that oppose any type of wolf control that includes the killing of the wolf pushed an old issue this week to stir controversy over aerial control. Photo taken 5 years ago showing the use of a “kill sticker”, like used by fighter pilot aces during WWII, surfaced this week. The use of such stickers was banned a few years ago because they could be viewed as offensive by some people. While it sounds ridiculous for anyone to even care about such a trivial issue the government still felt compelled to issue an apology.

This is much to do about nothing but it does show us how far astray we have become when an apology gets issued for something as dumb and useless as this.

Missouri Car Dealer Mark Muller is about to launch his forth annual gun give away despite lots of pressure in the past to cancel the promotions.

Despite the White House harassment, and the loss of financing and insurance arrangements that came in the past, the Butler, Mo., car dealer who will be giving away AK-47’s again starting in October.

“Guess what? We are doing it again! It is the Fourth Annual Great Guns and Gas Give-Away!” said Mark Muller, the owner of Max Motors, whose July 17, 2009 interview with CNN’s Carol Costello about his promotion was great publicity, but brought him unwelcome attention.

Within days of the CNN broadcast, three agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived at the dealership, he said.

Human Events has the details of all the pressure that has been put on Max Motors by the government and big business. As many of us know many individuals who call themselves “progressive” believe the 2nd Amendment and belief in God are old ideas that are no longer needed in a civilized society. How delusional are those folks? Whether you own a gun yourself or not denying people there God Given Right to own guns is about as anti American as you can get. I also get a kick out of people who think an AK 47 or other assault weapon is somehow more dangerous for the public to own. I’d be more fearful of a boomerang in the hand of a felon then I would of a citizen with AK 47.

I’m not in the market for a truck but if I was Max Motors sounds like my kind of place to do business. Here is the original CNN News Story back in 2009 that brought national attention.

One of the most anti gun state legislators Deborah Ross has introduced a poison pill amendment to House Bill 111 that would allow CC permit [...]

Dumb Ass Ideas

One of the most anti gun state legislators Deborah Ross has introduced a poison pill amendment to House Bill 111 that would allow CC permit holders the ability to carry inside a restaurant that serves alcohol provided they didn’t drink. Currently it is not allowed. The Ross Amendment would require servers to ask people if they are CC when they order alcohol.
This is clearly an effort to discourage law abiding citizens from exercising rights granted to them by the creator. Rep Ross is the same individual who over the years has successfully blocked the castle doctrine here in North Carolina.

Anti-gun Reps. Deborah Ross (D-Wake, GRNC 0-star), Bill Faison (D-Durham, **), and Larry Hall (D-Durham, 0-star) tried to tie up the bill with repeated questioning and with contradictory and shifting amendments. Ross demanded that, in restaurants, servers ask diners ordering alcohol whether they are carrying firearms. In a confusing array of amendments to amendments, ultimately the committee passed an amendment to the bill under which restaurants MAY but are not REQUIRED to ask those ordering alcohol of their status. As noted below, GRNC will vociferously oppose even this weakened language on the House floor.

Ammo Land

I guess I’m a bit confused with Republicans in control why are these ridiculous amendments from these totally useless anti gun democraps are even being considered? We can’t compromise on what is right we just need to get this bill passed. How stupid would it be if every time you went to order a beer or a glass of wine if your server had to ask you if you were carrying.
Rep Ross even tried to say she was speaking on behalf of the Restaurant Association till their lobbyist voiced opposition to her ridiculous amendment.

HB 111 could head to the House floor as early as tomorrow, and almost certainly by next week. Immediate take the following actions:
•	E-MAIL ALL MEMBERS OF THE NC HOUSE: Use GRNC’s automated e-mail to send a customizable message by going to: http://grnc.org/alerts/email3_9_11.htm and delivering the message that members should not only pass HB 11, but should remove the Ross amendment.
•	CALL YOUR HOUSE REP: Tell he or she to support HB 111 with no further weakening amendments. You can identify your representative to the NC House by going to: http://www.grnc.org/contact_reps.htm
•	SHUT DOWN ROSS, FAISON AND HALL: Deliver a clear message that you will not tolerate meddling with gun rights legislation by calling the offices of Reps. Ross 919-733-5773, Faison 919-715-3019 and Hall 919-733-5872 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 10. If you happen to miss that time period, call them whenever you can.

Additional information and sample note to send is available from GRNC on Ammo Land

Many of us I’m sure recall the uproar Jim Zumbo caused some years back when he made disparaging remarks about the use of black guns when it comes to hunting. The AR15 has long been the standard for the use by our military but now it is gaining popularity among sportsmen as well. I’ve only shot one once but it is a pretty fun gun to use and now gaining popularity in hunting circles. I came across this video put out by the NSSF and thought it be good to share with my readers. Many of the anti wackos including the mainstream press have led the general public and I think many in our ranks to believe these “assault weapons” have no place in our society never mind yours and mine gun safes.

I think this is a well done video and hope others will share it with people and educate them on the facts. Who knows when the time comes for me to add another rifle to my hunting and shooting collection and AR15 might be on the top of this fudd’s list.

200 people showed up for the bigfoot hunt in Uwharrie National Forest along with a film crew from animal planet . Mike Greene and his encounter with bigfoot is what attracted Animal Planets film crew to NC. Mike Greene claims that he used a Zagnut Candy Bar to attract a bigfoot in to capture his thermal image to prove his existence. The video of this encounter is available if you go to his website and pay to view it. I’ll admit I didn’t view it.
While the hunt did not flush out a bigfoot some signs of the bigfoot were supposedly uncovered.

On Saturday approximately 200 people gathered at the Eldorado Outpost for a search in the Uwharrie National Forest. Walking through an open field a long line of searchers spread out as if they were doing a drive. A helicopter flew overhead, filming the scene. Camera crews on the ground filmed the searchers and whistles and bullhorns alerted the searchers when to stop. The searchers, found a deer carcass, animal hair on a fence and a Bigfoot print in the ground.

Maybe they should of set up some Zagnut bait stations to increase their chances of an encounter. We’ll continue to follow this and update when there is additional news.

An encounter with a bear in bear country is a risk you take when you enter.

Whenever we go afield, wade into a river or climb a tree it should be self evident that there is apparent risk. The question is how much responsibility do we have on a hunt and how much does the guide we hired have?

Virgil Massey of Barstow, Calif., sued the Church Universal and Triumphant and Montana Guide Service in 6th District Court.
In October 2007, Massey was hunting on the group’s land. A guide had left him on a ridge top to watch for elk. The guide accompanied a second hunter who killed a deer about 400 yards away.
When the guide returned, Massey told him he’d been “slapped by a bear.”
In court documents, Massey alleges the outfitter did not give him training on how to deal with bears or provide him with pepper spray or a handgun for protection.
He also contends the religious group shares responsibility because it is compensated for allowing Montana Guide Service to lead hunters on its land.
Massey is suing for past and future medical expenses as well as other damages he hopes a jury will award him at trial, according to court documents.

Great Falls Tribune

Is it the responsibility of a guide to provide a hunter with a handgun or pepper spray? I think not. If Virgil Massey was hunting elk I assume he had some type of weapon with him that he could have used to defend himself. While it may strike us as ridiculous and somewhat humorous this lawsuit and similar ones can damage future hunting opportunities. One must ignore an individual’s responsibilities to even think a guide or the landowner could share any responsibility in a bear attack. If frivolous cases like this one get any traction landowners could opt not to lease the land and go through the aggravation. Had it been something the guide or the landowner had some control over faulty equipment, negligence, and the likes I’d see it but not a bear attack. I hope the judge throws this case out, we all know the risks we take when we go hunting.

A move by antis to get the EPA to ban lead ammunition has failed after public outcry and pressure from grassroot groups.

Responding to a grassroots outcry from gun owners, the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and other radical groups that had sought to ban the use of lead in ammunition.

Agreeing with the position of the NRA and the firearms industry, the agency explained in a news release that it “does not have the legal authority to regulate this type of product under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).” Further crushing the hopes of anti-gun and anti-hunting activists, the release added: “nor is the agency seeking such authority.”
