The body of Benjamin Colton Barnes, the suspect in the killing of Ranger Anderson as well as an earlier shooting spree, was recovered faced down in a stream with heavy snow cover all around. The man with survival skills and training was seriously unprepared for his run from the law into the wilds as it appears nature took care of the task that would of taken our justice system years to do. Reports say there was no outward injuries on his body and it is believed he died from hypothermia or exposure to the elements.

Multiple news stories state that Barnes held authorities at bay firing upon them preventing them from reaching Ranger Anderson who was still in her patrol car. It took 90 minutes for them to reach her. I don’t know if thy could of got to her sooner if the outcome would be any different but what a cowardly act on his part.

Barnes may of been battling demons in his head but I seriously doubt he didn’t know his actions on New Years day, be it the earlier shooting or the murder of Ranger Anderson, were wrong. As the days go on I’m sure there will be further digging into his past; his misconduct discharge from the military, other brushes with the law, could he legally possess firearms etc. None of that will undo the tragedy that happened inside that park with the death of Ranger Anderson.

Some may think I’m cold but part of me is glad he is dead. No one else was injured or killed trying to stop this killer and now we won’t have to go through a long trial waiting and hoping for justice.

My thoughts and prayers are still with Ranger Anderson’s family and friends as well as the National Park Service and all those who work daily to keep us safe.

The suspect being hunted for the murder of Ranger Anderson is still at large this morning inside Mount Rainier National Park. National Park Rangers, Local Sheriff deputies along with Washington State Police, National Forrest, and FBI SWAT have sealed off the area and continue the man hunt. Barnes is believed to be on foot in the woods armed with an “assault rifle” authorities have said trackers have tracked him into a stream area where he was attempting to make his way out of the snow covered area in attempts to throw the pursuers off. Additionally an aircraft with a heat seeking camera has been brought into the hunt to help scan the area and narrow the search. Obviously this is a difficult situation giving the rugged terrain they are working in as well as the suspect has some military / survival skills training and apparently no problems with shooting others. In addition to the murder of Ranger Anderson Barnes is being sought in another shooting where four people were shot in a house during a New Years Party.

Will continue to follow this story and hopefully authorities will bring this manhunt to a successful and safe end soon.

Ranger Margaret Anderson made the ultimate sacrifice earlier today while on patrol in Mount Rainier National Park when trying to stop a vehicle that had failed to yield to another ranger. Ranger Anderson had set up a roadblock to stop the vehicle when she was fatally shot. Early reports state that the shooter approached the roadblock and exited his vehicle with a gun shooting the ranger and then escaping into the woods. Additional rangers and deputies arriving on the scene were also fired upon with what is reported as a suspect with a “assault rifle”.

The park has been closed and a manhunt is currently being conducted. Visitors in the park have been asked to leave because this is a very dangerous situation. Some news reports say that people attempting to leave the park have been fired upon as well and armored vehicles are being brought in to help evacuate the public.

The vehicle the suspect was driving belongs to Benjamin Colton Barnes

Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says 24-year-old Benjamin Colton Barnes is believed to have military experience and possess skills to survive in the wild.

A man who is a person of interest in the shooting death of a park ranger Sunday morning near Mt. Rainier is also a suspect in a shooting that left four wounded in Skyway earlier in the day, sources tell KOMO News.

Detectives are looking for Benjamin Colton Barnes, a 24-year-old believed to have military experience and survivalist skills, officials said.

This is a tragic situation for sure and I’m sure as time goes on will know more about what exactly happened. Our thought and prayers certainly go out to the Anderson family that just lost mother and wife as well as her co workers and friends. Additionally we pray for a quick and safe resolution to this man hunt.

The multiple news stories with references to the change of law in 2010 that allows people to carry firearms in National Parks I will not address at this time. I don’t see it as relevant to this story especially if it turns out prior felonies were committed prior to this tragic encounter.

Tonight my prayers are with two little girls who’ll never have their Mom tuck them into bed, tell them a story, or bake their favorite cookies.

State Police detectives have concluded that the Sept. 30 death of a Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent was an accident, a State Police spokesman said Friday.

The body of Sgt. Paul Stuckey was found on River Road in St. Francisville between the Mississippi River and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mat-casting plant.

Lt. Doug Cain said detectives reported their findings earlier this week to Stuckey’s family and the command staff of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Stuckey was investigating an active complaint of night hunting in the area, Cain said.

“It was obvious that he was setting up surveillance and had an accidental discharge of his shotgun,” Cain said.

Slob “hunters” dumping the remains of a deer on roadsides and others people’s property is just wrong. Today my wife and I took a ride and I stopped by one of my leases and at the gate on the side of a public road we found a deer dumped. Clearly the deer had been taken by a bow or a firearm and someone had cut the meat off before dumping the remains.

Folks it is crap like this that will hurt our sport. How hard is it to properly dispose of the remains of your deer you take? What should of been a a beautiful afternoon ride turned into a situation that absolutely ticked me off.

I can’t believe that people have to be reminded of ethics as well as the legal obligations of properly disposing of deer carcasses. Dumping on the road, in waterways, or on other peoples property is wrong. Please properly dispose of your big game remains.

Louisiana Wildlife Officer Sergent Paul Stuckey was killed in the line of duty earlier today while investigating a reported case of jack lighting.

The body of Sgt. Paul Stuckey, 47, was found at about 7 a.m. next to his patrol truck on a gravel river road by fishermen just outside St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish. At 2:15 a.m., he reported to his supervisor that he was heading out to investigate a tip about illegal nighttime hunting, according to wildlife officials.

State police investigators, the lead detectives, said they had no suspects as of Friday.

Lt. Doug Cain, a state police spokesman, said there were signs that Stuckey was in the midst of surveillance when he was killed. Cain said Stuckey had binoculars on his truck’s dashboard, had made it so the lights inside his truck could not be seen and had filled out his patrol log.

“There are definite indications that he was on an investigation,” Cain said.

But he said investigators had a lot more work to do such as ballistics tests and DNA analysis. He said there were no obvious clues gathered from the scene.

“There are certainly a lot of unanswered questions,” he said.

West Feliciana Sheriff Austin Daniel said the coroner indicated that Stuckey probably was shot and killed sometime after 2:15 a.m., perhaps around daybreak.

“It didn’t look like a scuffle had taken place,” Daniel said. He said it appeared Stuckey had been struck by a shot from close range.

Killing someone over a deer is ridiculously stupid especially when a law officer is gunned down. I hope the scumbag that is responsible for this senseless crime is brought to justice soon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sgt Stuckey’s family, friends and co workers as they struggle with this horrible senseless crime.

I don’t know if they have the death penalty in Louisiana but cases like this just beg to have a fast track to the death chamber.

A local news station (ABC 13) is reporting that a young man was confronted at gun point by a man claiming to be a NC Wildlife Officer.

A hunter claims he was hassled and handcuffed by a man pretending to be a wildlife officer. Daniel Pittman, 19, says he was hunting on land off Zion road in Rutherford County on Saturday, when a man dressed as a wildlife officer approached him. The man allegedly pointed a gun at him, handcuffed him and placed him in the back of his jeep. Pittman says he saw stains on the seats that resembled blood. Pittman says he was scared for his safety, before the man finally let him go unharmed. The hunter filed a report with the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. They say the man wasn’t an officer and are now looking for a white male in his mid-twenties, 180-190 lbs with brown hair in a military style buzz cut. The man was reportedly driving a 1996 dark Jeep Grand Cherokee. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Six and a half feet tall maybe seven feet? Sure does limit your suspect pool significantly. I’ll admit I got some serious questions about this story and wonder if it’s true. I sure hope know one would make up a story like this besides the height and weight that makes me wonder who when confronted by an officer at gun point would remove and reinsert their rifle magazine? The last thing I want to do is do anything that an officer could view as dangerous.
We don’t know what is going on but to be on the safe side make sure if you encounter someone claiming to be a Wildlife officer that you see some ID.

North Carolina Wildlife officers armed with a search warrant went on to a farm in Randolph County looking for illegal captive deer and found some. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been around for a while and once it crossed over the Mississippi River and got into eastern part of the United States game agencies got real serious about trying to slow the spread. North Carolina like many states put into place strict rules about deer farming, transporting deer both dead and alive, to hopefully prevent CWD from showing up here.

I find it hard to believe anyone that has deer or cares about them as much as Wayne Kindley,(the farmer) seems to, did not know about the regulations around keeping them in captivity. Anyone that has done any reading in the field of rehabbing deer should of come across the topic of CWD.
The rules we have in place are to protect the natural resources as well as the citizens of this state NCWRC had no choice but to put these deer down. Since NC adopted these rules back in 2002 initially CWD has spread to West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.

Will continue to follow this story as it progress but with what has been presented so far it seems NCWRC acted appropriately. I’d be curious to know where the 2 whitetails came from that he had clearly there could not be any misunderstanding on that because you have to be a state certified to rehab deer and a check of the list doesn’t show that he is on the list.

MerchantService.com is a credit card processing company that business contract with for the service. A quick trip around their website shows a Pro American, Pro Gun, Pro Individual Rights that offers gun vouchers as rewards for business that open accounts with them.

The reason we’ve launched this NoMerchantVictims.com program now is that I believe our benevolent democratic society has met a tipping point. A point where our society has instilled the “right” to a small (2 to 6%) portion of our population to commit repeated often time violent and fatal crimes. It’s called our “catch and release” criminal justice system. We even provide the criminals a center of higher education, prisons, where they can study to master their trades.

It’s our goal to promote a “societal shift expectation” from only Criminals “having rights to make you a Victim”, to Criminals “having the expectation of facing lethal force during the commission of a crime”. Just a very small reduction in the number of career criminals will free up vast amounts of funding for education and health care, rather than continuing to waste criminal justice funding on the repeat criminals responsible for about 80% of the crimes.

I’m sure in this politically correct world we live in some of the “elite” find this whole bonus program offensive. To me its a breath of fresh air in a society that seems to gnaw away at the individual rights our country was founded on and make us all subjects to the “elite” in Washington.

A North Carolina man convicted in Kentucky for poaching a 14 pt.buck has lost his world wide right to hunt as part of his sentencing. [...]

A North Carolina man convicted in Kentucky for poaching a 14 pt.buck has lost his world wide right to hunt as part of his sentencing.

Rodney L. Poteat has agreed to pay more than $5,300 in restitution and fees and has been subjected to a two-year worldwide hunting ban after pleading guilty to federal charges of illegally killing and transporting wildlife from Kentucky.
Poteat, 44, currently lives in Salisbury, N.C. U.S. Magistrate Judge E. Robert Goebell sentenced him earlier this month in Bowling Green federal court after Poteat admitted hunting in Kentucky since 1999 without purchasing the required licenses. Goebell issued the hunting ban as a condition of unsupervised probation.
According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Poteat transported a 14-point whitetail deer from Hart County to North Carolina on Nov. 27, 2010. He failed to purchase a Kentucky nonresident hunting license and deer permit and also to report the kill and file a report with the department before transporting the deer out of state.

Poachers especially those who kill a “trophy animal” are pretty much low life’s in my view and I’m glad this guy was caught. How he was caught is pretty cool in that other hunters had the buck Poteat claimed he killed in North Carolina on trail camera’s in Kentucky. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife armed with the photos had the info to press Poteat.

Kentucky enforcement officials grew suspicious when hunters from the Hart County area said Poteat claimed that one of his mounted deer was killed in North Carolina. Trail camera photos taken in Hart County showed a live deer with a distinctive antler configuration identical to that of Poteat’s mount.
When confronted with the photos, Poteat admitted his violations and surrendered four deer mounts, two turkey mounts and a bobcat mount. He also pleaded guilty to knowingly transporting a bobcat from Kentucky without purchasing the required license and failure to report the taking of a bobcat.

While the headline of the World Wide Hunting ban hit many news wires last week the fact that hunters busted this case with trail cameras was not as widely reported. Hunters in general hate poachers and many of us will in a heartbeat will assist law enforcement to bust those who cheat. So anyone thinking about killing a trophy buck illegal you better hope know one has that buck on a game camera anywhere or you may be busted too.
