The M1 was the rifle that many of our soldiers carried and a cache of them is soon to be returned to the United States from Korea.

a large number of Korean War surplus M1s may be on their way to the U.S. to be sold to Korean War veterans and their families as souvenirs this summer — in time for the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War.

My Dad served in the Army over in Korea and I’m sure he used the M1 while he served. Dad wasn’t a hunter or owned any guns so growing up I never saw him with a gun. I was in college when I first took up hunting and years latter when I killed my first Maine Moose it was cool to have him there photographing us loading that critter into a truck.
I know a lot of people have guns that have been passed down from generation to generation but that is not the case in my family. I’m giving a serious thought to trying to get one of these guns as another connection to my Dad and the service he did when our country needed young men to serve.
I took photos of the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC shortly after it opened and brought them up to Maine to let him see it. I wish we’d had the opportunity to visit it together. Thanks to all who served especially our Korean War Veterans as we come up on the 62nd Anniversary.

Looks like Santa must of had a sleigh full of guns this year if the record setting background checks for gun purchases is a sign.

With a few days left in December, the FBI reports the number of background checks has already topped the previous one-month record — set only in November — of 1,534,414 inquiries by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System also known as NICS. Almost half a million checks were done in just the last six days before Christmas.

Two days before Christmas, NICS ran 102,222 background checks, which was the second-busiest day in history. The one-day record was set this year on Black Friday, the big shopping day following Thanksgiving, with 129,166 searches. By comparison, the previous one-day high was set November 28, 2008, when gun dealers made slightly less than 98,000 requests for background searches.

CNN

So is the spike in sales a good sign for the economy? Sure it is but it also may tell us that people feel the need for protection. Maybe they want to have additional hunting opportunities to harvest their own food. Whatever the reasons its good to see money being spent in the local economy.

Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan has ruled that the city will pay 1.1 million dollars in legal fees for the defendant Dick Heller. Heller’s defense team initially sought 3.1 but the judge scaled that back giving the city what they consider a “victory”.
The Heller Case challenged the DC law that banned private citizens from owning handguns in what is to many of us a clear violation of the 2nd amendment.

To me this is another victory for our rights. Rights given to us by God and no man or government should deny us these rights.

As we get ready to roll into 2012 it promises to be a very active political year.

There is nothing that puts fear in a dirtbag like the potential of facing an armed citizen that refuses to be a victim. North Carolina [...]

There is nothing that puts fear in a dirtbag like the potential of facing an armed citizen that refuses to be a victim. North Carolina is an open carry state that means you can carry a gun in the open however if you want to carry a gun concealed you have to have a state issued permit. North Carolina requires you to take a class that includes time on the range to show that you can safely handle a gun. I spent Friday evening and part of Saturday in a classroom learning about the gun laws of the state as well as gun safety. After the classroom we went to the range and did the shooting part.

Now that I’ve completed the class I now can go to the sheriff’s office and submit an application for a conceal carry permit. I believe our fore fathers certainly expected a society where people had the option to be armed and not a society that depends on government. I guess as we look at how things in our country are going there sure are a lot of people looking for others to give them things.
We have had a number of things at one of my hunting clubs that have been stolen recently. I suspect if the economy continues to tank will see more and more crime as some seem to have little regard for what is the right thing to do.

Shootings in our society seem to happen far too often; a congress woman meeting with her constituents in a shopping center, a man looking to settle a score with his ex wife walks in and shoots up a nursing home, someone walks in and shots up a pancake house, or someone walks into a classroom and starts shooting. Granted the odds of such an event happening to one of us is pretty low but shouldn’t you have the chance to defend yourself and your loved ones?
We hope that one day there will be a national right to carry.

Missouri Car Dealer Mark Muller is about to launch his forth annual gun give away despite lots of pressure in the past to cancel the promotions.

Despite the White House harassment, and the loss of financing and insurance arrangements that came in the past, the Butler, Mo., car dealer who will be giving away AK-47’s again starting in October.

“Guess what? We are doing it again! It is the Fourth Annual Great Guns and Gas Give-Away!” said Mark Muller, the owner of Max Motors, whose July 17, 2009 interview with CNN’s Carol Costello about his promotion was great publicity, but brought him unwelcome attention.

Within days of the CNN broadcast, three agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrived at the dealership, he said.

Human Events has the details of all the pressure that has been put on Max Motors by the government and big business. As many of us know many individuals who call themselves “progressive” believe the 2nd Amendment and belief in God are old ideas that are no longer needed in a civilized society. How delusional are those folks? Whether you own a gun yourself or not denying people there God Given Right to own guns is about as anti American as you can get. I also get a kick out of people who think an AK 47 or other assault weapon is somehow more dangerous for the public to own. I’d be more fearful of a boomerang in the hand of a felon then I would of a citizen with AK 47.

I’m not in the market for a truck but if I was Max Motors sounds like my kind of place to do business. Here is the original CNN News Story back in 2009 that brought national attention.

MerchantService.com is a credit card processing company that business contract with for the service. A quick trip around their website shows a Pro American, Pro Gun, Pro Individual Rights that offers gun vouchers as rewards for business that open accounts with them.

The reason we’ve launched this NoMerchantVictims.com program now is that I believe our benevolent democratic society has met a tipping point. A point where our society has instilled the “right” to a small (2 to 6%) portion of our population to commit repeated often time violent and fatal crimes. It’s called our “catch and release” criminal justice system. We even provide the criminals a center of higher education, prisons, where they can study to master their trades.

It’s our goal to promote a “societal shift expectation” from only Criminals “having rights to make you a Victim”, to Criminals “having the expectation of facing lethal force during the commission of a crime”. Just a very small reduction in the number of career criminals will free up vast amounts of funding for education and health care, rather than continuing to waste criminal justice funding on the repeat criminals responsible for about 80% of the crimes.

I’m sure in this politically correct world we live in some of the “elite” find this whole bonus program offensive. To me its a breath of fresh air in a society that seems to gnaw away at the individual rights our country was founded on and make us all subjects to the “elite” in Washington.

With many new laws going into effect tomorrow, July 1st, the start of the new fiscal year the Castle Doctrine won’t until December 1st. The Castle Doctrine is an important gun rights law that puts the rights back in the citizen’s hand and out of the criminal’s.

Effective Dec. 1, gun owners will have less guesswork. The update to the law flips the burden of proof from the homeowner to prosecutors. If someone unlawfully crosses a homeowner’s threshold, whether there’s a weapon in the intruder’s hands or not, it’s automatically presumed that the person is a violent intruder.

“So, under Castle Doctrine, there’s a legal presumption that if he’s here, inside forcibly and unlawfully inside, he’s here to do me harm. And at that point, I can respond with deadly force,”

9807392

The castle doctrine in my opinion is the single most important law after the right to conceal carry. It’s about time the people of NC have the right to not retreat when facing a criminal intruder.

The Coastal Game Fish Bill must pass this week or it will be dead for at least two years under the state law making procedures. The Coastal Game Fish Bill will protect Red Drum, Speckled Trout and Striped Bass from the wasteful harvest methods utilized by commercial fisherman that resulted in massive fish kills off our coast.

The Coastal Game Fish Bill classifies red drum, striped bass, and speckled sea trout as game fish and limits the take of these fish to hook and line. The bill also prohibits sale of these three species of fish. This protection is necessary given the current depleted state of these fishery stocks and overfishing pressure. These three fish are relatively less important to the commercial fishing industry since they constitute only about 1.5 percent of the commercial harvest in NC. The value of these fish to the local and state economies as game fish is hundreds of times greater than when managed as commercial fisheries.

NC Camo has some good info as well as a way to contact your lawmakers so check it out

The Omnibus Firearm Bill has made it through the second reading but an amendment eliminating parking lot language has reduced the effectiveness of this bill. If a business bars you from carrying on their premises as well as storing your gun in a locked vehicle then you have clearly lost your second amendment rights.

NRA-backed omnibus firearm bill, passed second reading on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, an anti-gun amendment introduced by state Representative Chuck McGrady (R-117) was adopted by a narrow 59 to 57 vote. This amendment eliminated the Parking Lot language that would have barred any business from prohibiting Right-to-Carry permit holders from storing firearms in their vehicles while parked on the property of that business. Several state Representatives who have historically supported gun owners cast surprising votes in favor of this amendment.

The NRA has the list of those lawmakers who didn’t stand up for our rights as well as a way to contact them.
It’s going to be a hot day but remind lawmakers we’re not all on the beach and paying attention what is happening in Raleigh.

In what had to be one of the most ridiculous laws on the book requiring anyone purchasing a crossbow in the state of North Carolina use to be required to obtain a pistol permit first. So last year when crossbows became legal to use during archery season a number of people crossed stateliness to purchase crossbows and avoid the extra expense and hassle of getting a pistol permit.

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is advising hunters that a bill removing the requirement to obtain a pistol permit in order to purchase or transfer ownership of a crossbow has been signed into law.
Previously, state law required anyone buying or otherwise receiving a crossbow in North Carolina to have either a pistol permit from their local sheriff’s office or a concealed handgun permit.
Crossbows are a legal method of hunting in North Carolina, permissible anytime bow-and-arrow hunting is allowed. However, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission does not regulate the sale or purchase of firearms and crossbows.

NCWRC

They should do away with Pistol Permits altogether but that’s another conversation.
