Well, tomorrow is the day that we (North Carolina bowhunters) have waited for the past 8 and a half months since deer season ended last January 1st. I’ll be bringing my entire hunting season through the blog and straight to you this year – waterfowl, doves (already did some of that), squirrels, predators, and who knows…maybe a little deer hunting (or maybe a TON). I hope you are as excited as I am!

2006, Wake County, North Carolina, 12 pointer, 131 gross, 196 pounds.
It has been 2 years since my last Pope & Young buck, but frankly, I do live in North Carolina and those would be some lofty goals. That being said, my goal is to harvest a mature buck with a bow (3.5 year-old +). I don’t care what it scores, plus maybe a couple of does also. When I am hunting game lands and a good 2.5 year-old buck presents itself, he may get the shaft also.
On Saturday, I’ll be hunting with dad back at the homestead in Alamance County. The southwest wind is perfect for 3 great standsites, and now we just have to figure out which two to hunt. Should be a great day though. Opening day is my favorite day to hunt out of the whole season. Although I’ve never wrapped my tag around a nice buck on opening day, I’ve sure had my fair share of close calls. Disproportionately more than any other day of the season – including the rut. Needless to say I have high hopes for tomorrow morning!
I’m hoping to here from as many readers as possible this fall with all of your successes and your failures (if they memorable also). Feel free to drop a comment at the bottom of any blog post and let me know what you’ve been seeing or shooting in the woods. Better yet, drop me an email with an attached picture and I’ll blog about it.
Best of luck this fall and I’ll be bringing the first installments of deer season 2008 in mere hours!
