Finished up my antler mount of the G2 buck that I shot this January in Alabama.

I spent more than twice what was necessary to do an antler mount, but I think it is more than twice as nice as the other antler mounts I have done with a simple walnut plaque and red velvet covering.  So I think it was worth every penny.

Here are where you can pick up the same supplies

Trophy Room Wood Products I used the Large Game 1150 design.  $37.70

Explore their website.  They have awesome panels for just about anything you could ever want to mount.  Unreal selection.

McKenzie Taxidermy Supply I used the AMC1 antler mounting cover that is gaining a lot of popularity amongst taxidermists.  Also be sure to pick up the decorative finishing tacks that are located on the same link.

Finally, I went to the local Hobby Lobby found some cord that matched the other 2 elements and hot glued it all together.

All told it cost just over $50 for everything plus  a couple hours labor.  It took me longer than I thought because I had to build up the skull plate with wood filler putty so the braided cord would sit nicely in place.

So, when your taxidermist wants to charge you $75-$100 for an antler mount – don’t raise your eyebrows and say “huh?!?!” because it is a decent bit more work than I thought to get one done just right.

Anyways, I’ve included a couple close up shots to show more detail.

You can see a little bead of the hot glue that i used to secure the 3 loops of cord around each antler base.

I think the plaques are just awesome.  Handworked from Czech Republic on basswood.  For under $40 bucks, the artwork is really great.

I’ve got one more set of supplies and I’m still debating whether or not to do the same thing with my archery 8 pointer or save it for another time.
