…and I apologize for not having updated the blog in the last week or so. I’m trying to meet some of the more significant deadlines in my PhD program this week and next, so the outdoor activities have been heavily scaled back.
My wife and I did, however, make a trip back to North Carolina over Easter weekend. Dad and I assembled a new tripod stand and toted it out into the middle of a fresh 30 acre clearcut that was opened up on the land where we hunt around the house. It already has pine seedlings planted, but the tripod should be a great stand for the next couple years until the pines outgrow the visibility.
Few things to look forward to…
*Bass fishing – I’d like to get out this weekend or next week and chase some more bass around with a spinnerbait.
*Shed hunting – I will be doing some of that this weekend down at the research site. Most of the fields have been picked clean, but most of the thickets should be holding some serious head gear. In fact, there might be a few antlers out in the fields because the bucks are still dropping here in Alabama believe it or not. Maybe 10-15% still holding on.
*Maybe a little turkey hunting too.
So, no it’s not deer season, but there are a few things going on in the outdoors and I’ll try to bring them to you as they happen.
By the way, if you are planning on hunting Kansas this year (as I certainly am) tag deadline is end of April, NOT END OF MAY as usual. So don’t procrastinate or you’ll be looking elsewhere for an out-of-state Midwest whitetail hunt.
