There is no doubt that the wildfires burning up and down the Rocky Mountain range are very troubling – forcing people to evacuate, draining local and regional government budgets, causing folks to re-evaluate wildfire and timber policies, and doing some serious wildlife habitat alteration. Hunters are staring at previously spied out honeyholes and wondering if their coveted tags are going to burn up as well.

Well, we aren’t at that mental state yet, but there are a couple big wildfires ablaze in the San Juan wilderness – destination for this September’s hunt. Definitely going to play into our decision making in the coming months so I’ll try to keep you updated and maybe post some strategies for hunting burned out units as the elk season approaches.
