Roadkill, African Style

Wow, looks like there was damage done both to giraffe and plane. Imagine driving down your local road and see one of those on the side of it.

I never thought about it, but you’ve got to suppose that some African animals become roadkill, or runwaykill, over time. Guess you just don’t think about it happening.

I bet that left a mark!

Not yet been to Africa, but some reading from the great African hunting writers, Ruark, Capstick, etc. suggests that not only do you have to watch out for the animals on the roads, you have to watch out for their burrows and holes. Apparently a warthog can burrow into the road in the space of an evening, leaving a hole that is literally big enough to flip a Land Rover. Injuries and deaths are not uncommon.

Even worse, imagine barreling down the road to find a rhino barreling back toward you! Wanna play chicken?
