Went out tonight with the Sun shining in town, but by the time I was out at the ranch the high clouds had rolled in again. The wind was steady so hiked around the ridge I went up the first day and hunkered down in the wild oats with a small blackberry bush to break up my outline.
I got out to hunt at 6:30 pm, and I saw no action until 7:20 when a spike just APPEARED at the mid point of the ridge infront of me, about 160 yards away. He was watching something or some one so I scanned to see what it was. It was another spike with one longer spike and a short side. They walked up the creek to 70 yards from me then disappeared in a deeper channel below my position. 70 yards beyond me, one reappeared out of the willows before sauntering around the corner.
That was the only action for the night. At 8:30 I still hunted my way back to my rig without jumping anything. I talked with a neighbor on the ranch who told me about all the big bucks he has seen outside of rifle season. He will keep an eye open for when I return.
I’m going to give this spot a couple days rest. I’ll do a speed workout Tues and 3D archery with the girls Wednesday Night.
