It started with a single eight by ten inch photo I’d made for a friend who had just harvested his first whitetail deer – a mature doe. I’d been with him that day, hunting on a friend’s farm in southern Ohio. I’d noticed his hands, shaking, as he fumbled through his pack in search of his pen, deer tag and blade. I knew the feeling and as I captured the photograph of Tony and his first deer I was sure that this would be a memory we’d share for the rest of our lives.
Sharing in that excitement is what motivated me to piece together Wudyaget Field Portraits. A lifelong sportsman and student of graphic design, I’d spent a lot of time in college, thinking of how to produce a marriage between my love for the outdoors and my artistic abilities. Confident that I’d found my niche, I launched www.wudyaget.com in early 2007, named for the first question my father would often ask me upon returning from my latest hunting or fishing excursion. The initial offering was the eight by ten inch, photographic print entitled; the “Custom Field Portrait”. Citing the photo I’d made for my friend, Tony, the Custom Field Portrait service offered to manipulate client provided photos by adding design elements such as text, logos and locator maps. The details that lead to the moment of the photo were now fused into the image itself, thus making it more complete and in turn, more meaningful.
The response I received from clients validated my belief; that many sportsmen felt more connected to their accomplishments a field than a dog-eared, coffee stained, five by seven photo. The level of enthusiasm that my service was greeted with convinced me to continue to pursue this passion.
In August of 2008, www.wudyaget.com was re-launched, toting a vastly expanded product line. The Custom Field Portrait now claims a number of different sizes, shapes and styles. Moving beyond simple, photographic prints, the line has grown to include custom buttons, license plates and more. The crown jewel of the collection, the State Shape Field Portrait, is printed on a rigid, plastic board that is then contour cut to the shape of the state in which the event took place. This is a trophy display truly unlike anything the hunting and fishing communities have ever seen before.
Realizing the personal nature of these experiences, I fully acknowledge that many of my customers will have custom requests as well. I openly invite those requests and do my best to accommodate even the most extravagant wishes.
Moving forward, I continue to develop new, innovative trophy products to share with my fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Recognizing the potential applications of the existing product line, I plan to extend my offerings beyond this great community and into other niche markets as well.
Wudyaget Field Portraits was founded on the idea that much of the thrill of the hunt comes from the memories it evokes. My aim is to make revisiting and sharing those memories with others more accessible. Whether it’s your first deer, a record catch or simply a good day with friends, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate your time spent in the woods or on the water and a Custom Field Portrait from Wudyaget.com is the perfect way. Relive the moment. Relive the excitement. Relive the dream.™
