PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

Decoying whitetail deer within arrow shot range can be exciting, nerve wracking, intense, frustrating … and highly successful. Gary Clancy, a well-known and respected outdoor writer, has concentrated much of his hunting efforts since 1981 on learning the deer decoying techniques that work, the do’s and don’ts of decoying timing and set-ups, then fine-tuning and strengthening them with the enhancement of calls and rattling.

Clancy will give decoying seminars at the Illinois Deer & Turkey Classic, February 27th through March first at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. He also will be the resident expert and host of a deer decoy display and demonstration area.

Clancy says the questions can be endless: “Hunters want to know what works and what does not. Which decoy is best in a given situation? Are silhouette decoys worth spending your money on? Should you buy a buck or a doe decoy? Is there a time when you should be using both? Where should you position the decoy in relation to your stand? Can you use a portable ground blind when decoying deer? What about movement? Are decoys worth lugging around early and late in the season, or are they a rut-only tactic? Should you use scents with a decoy? What kind? How much? How do you make sure your decoy does not smell like a human? And how do you scare bucks off that you don’t want to shoot, before they lower their heads and take out your decoy?

Clancy says decoying deer is growing in popularity because bowhunters have learned that all bucks, including the real bruisers, can be lured to a well positioned decoy. It’s also a lot of fun, he adds.
