Every bear has his day, or is that every dog? Either way, join your old friend Smokey Bear to celebrate during his 60th birthday at J. Edward Roush Lake – Kilsoquah State Recreation Area, May 23 & 24.
On May 23, festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. Gather at the Kilsoquah SRA program shelter to hang birthday decorations. From 5-6 p.m. the Huntington Fire Department will teach safety techniques on how to find your way out of a smoke-filled home. At 6 p.m., there is a bicycle decorating party, followed by a parade at 6:45 p.m. At 7 p.m., everyone is invited to enjoy cookies, punch and ice cream. Make a donation and have your photo taken with Smokey.
At 8:30 p.m. on May 24, gather at the program shelter for an all-ages movie.
There is no fee for the program. Park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents will apply.
