All Creatures Pest Control of Merrimack, NH was called by Eastlantic Advertising for a squirrel running amuck inside the office. Employees had been hearing movement for several days in the basement ceiling, but it had remained out of sight. When the squirrel finally emerged it ran into the kitchen where it was locked inside until Mark Ravenelle, owner of All Creatures could arrive.
One reason for the entry to the building may have been the recent ice storm. Many squirrel nests were wiped out. Each squirrel has 2-4 nests they can call their own or share with others. Gray squirrels have to take every opportunity to survive the rigors of winters. When severe weather damages nests, they scramble to find shelter, sometimes falling down chimneys, chewing in through house vents or eaves. It’s a matter of life or death for them.
A Squirrel In Every Pot
Situations like this provide an occupation for Ravenelle at All Creatures who has specialized in wildlife removal and fortifying homes for 12 years. “Every animal situation is different requiring a variety of techniques and tools to resolve the conflict between human and animals. To capture the squirrel Ravenelle entered the tidy kitchenette armed with traps and a noose. These tools wouldn’t be needed however as the squirrel scrambled for a hiding spot, choosing a soup pot of all things. Being respectful of all living things, Ravenelle released the squirrel uncooked.
