On average most snakes we encounter are not poisonous. Few snake conflicts actually do involve venomous snakes. Most snake bites occur to the forearms and occurred by someone who was purposely aggravating the snake to attack by not leaving it alone in the first place.
Should you encounter a snake simply leave it alone. Snakes will not remain on your property unless they have a reason in the first pace to be there. One is shelter from raptors and other predators and two is you probably have a food source nearby like rodents, fish or insects in large enough numbers to remain.
