Blocking Commenters
Posted by

In the decade or more that I have been administering my own blogs and websites, I have never had cause to block people from commenting. However, I have been forced to do just that because of poor behavior and abuse by several people. If you find you have been blocked on this website, well, I guess you have earned it.

Free speech is about presenting opinions and information of value. I have never block opposing opinions. As a matter of fact I encourage opposing opinions and the presentation of facts. I have been extremely lenient and liberal in allowing certain conversations and attacks on people take place. This continuous barrage of personal attacks and the most crude and vial slander is not about free speech, no more than yelling fire in a movie theater. It’s childish and to be quite honest I am sick and tired of it.

Those who have been blocked have repeatedly offered NOTHING to the process of reading, learning and education on this site. Their only purpose seemed to be to attack a person(s) and respond to attacks. Many of these responses originating at some other website.

Dedicating 10 years and more of my life to building a valued website, I will not allow its destruction for such self-serving, childish and outlandish reasons. This is not middle school nor is this censorship. It is protecting my property from something that no more resembles free speech and most resembles actions from a sanitarium for the mentally ill.

Some have been blocked and some have been warned. I will not tolerate personal attacks on anyone, any longer. I control the articles that get published here and, as in this case, I am forced to control the comments left behind, all at the same time attempting to keep open a website that promotes the free and open discussion about prominent issues.

For the overwhelming majority of my responsible and valued readers, I have heard your complaints and I hope I have answered them adequately. For the rest of you, it should be clear where I place my value.

Thank you.

Making the Final Move

I have decided to move my operation over to It’s been a long and slow process to finally reach this point where I am going to consolidate all my outdoor writing onto one blog and decided that one would be at

Most everything that readers have come to expect and enjoy at the Black Bear Blog, will be in place at Readers at the BBB will not have to sign up with new accounts to leave comments, as I am continuing to use the Disqus format for commenting. If you have a Disqus account, it will work there as well.

I am asking readers to change their bookmarks, home pages, etc. and inform your friends where I’ve moved. I hope you will make the move with me to continue to keep our work a success. Thank you.

RMEF Follows Cabela’s Withdraws From Gun Show

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation statement on Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show:

Due to recent decisions instituted by Reed Exhibitions regarding the disallowing of legal modern sporting rifles, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will withdraw as an exhibitor and conductor of the elk calling contest from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Pennsylvania. RMEF believes the actions taken by Reed, a British company, are detrimental to the Second Amendment and our right as Americans to bear arms.

RMEF reached this decision after careful deliberations and taking into account the stance of our members, volunteers, industry partners and fellow hunters. We urge Reed Exhibitions to reconsider its policies to avoid a divisive and political atmosphere so RMEF can take part in an event that generates needed revenue for important on-the-ground conservation and hunting heritage projects in the region.

The Lighthouse
Posted by

My father has been dead for almost 38 years. While of this life, he loved his guitar, his harmonica and his gospel band, The Lighthouse Band….among other things. The song Lighthouse was, of course, his theme song and he played it at the close of each performance.

Through all the turbulence of the day and the events spinning, seemingly out of control (but we know God is in control), I thought that nothing could be more simple, sweet and calming than to take focus of The Lighthouse sitting on the hillside where the Light guides the big and little ships in this world.

There’s a Lighthouse on the hillside
That over looks life’s sea
When I’m tossed it sends out a light
That I might see
And the light that shines in darkness now
Will safely lead us o’er
If it wasn’t for the Lighthouse
My ship would be no more

And I thank God for the Lighthouse
I owe my life to Him
For Jesus is the Lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin
He has shown a light around me
That I could clearly see
If it wasn’t for the Lighthouse (tell me)
Where would this ship be?

Everybody that lives about us
Says tear that Lighthouse down
The big ships don’t sail this way anymore
There’s no use of it standing round
Then my mind goes back to that stormy night
When just in time I saw the light
Yes, the light from that old Lighthouse
That stands up there on the hill

Repeat Chorus (x2)
If it wasn’t for the Lighthouse (tell me)
Where would this ship be?
