The Mule Deer Foundation is a great group that has been around for awhile, but they are currently expanding with a new vigor in Arizona and nearby states. This is due in large part to the efforts of good friend Terry Herndon. Terry was recently appointed the MDF Regional Director for Arizona and southern Nevada.
Terry has been all over the state helping form new chapters. In addition to the strong Mesa chapter which has been around awhile, Terry has helped develop new chapters in the White Mountains, Flagstaff and Phoenix. He is working on a Prescott chapter and yours truly is meeting with Terry this week along with mutual friend Danny Martinez to start laying the groundwork for an East Valley chapter. If you’re in south Mesa, Chandler, Apache Junction, Gilbert, Queen Creek, or San Tan Valley and want to belong to a great organization, please get in touch with me. Danny and I want to hit the ground running and build a strong and busy chapter quickly.
The purpose of the Mule Deer Foundation is to ensure the conservation of mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat.
MDF is dedicated to the following goals:
*To restore, improve and protect mule deer habitat (including land and easement acquisitions) resulting in self-sustaining, healthy, free ranging and huntable deer populations.
*To encourage and support responsible wildlife management with government agencies, private organizations and landowners.
*To promote public education and scientific research related to mule deer and wildlife management.
*To support and encourage responsible and ethical behavior and awareness of issues among those whose actions affect mule deer.
*To support regulated hunting as a viable component of mule deer and black-tailed deer conservation.
*To develop programs that focus on recruitment and retention of youth into the shooting sports and conservation.
