Hollister DeLong is an Upstate New York resident but was raised on a Northern Vermont hill farm, during the 1950’s and 60’s. DeLong developed a love affair for nature as well as hunting and fishing. The hunting and fishing was not done for sport but to put valuable protein on the table. His father’s teaching developed DeLong’s frugal nature and ability to be independent. Always an ardent reader of Outdoor magazines, DeLong’s own writing did not come around seriously until he was in his early forties, writing outdoor articles for various media in the Southwest, while living in Las Cruces, NM. This was followed by a novel and subsequently various regular monthly columns. Currently, his America’s Frugal Sportsman column can be found several places on line and in printed media in the New York and New England areas. DeLong ,proficient with rifle, shotgun, muzzle loader and archery, always eagerly awaits the fall season, his favorite time to hunt. For nearly fifty years he has hunted and fished from Maine to New Mexico.
