Chad Weatherford of Loris, S.C., was named the champion of the 2010 Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge presented by Mobil 1, walking away with more than $50,00 in cash and prizes. The seventh annual event, held outside Springfield, Mo., featured sportsmen from across the country competing to determine the nation’s most skilled all-around outdoorsman. Over the three-day event Weatherford out-fished, out-shot, and out-hustled 15 of the best sportsmen in the country to successfully claim the title, walking away with a grand prize package including: $25,000 in cash; a trip for two to attend the star-studded Country Music Association Awards; a profile in Field & Stream; a Yamaha ATV; extensive exposure on and the Outdoor Channel’s Total Outdoorsman Challenge television show; and more. Weatherford and his fellow competitors were tested in seven outdoor disciplines: flyfishing, bass fishing, rifle, shotgun, endurance, archery and ATV handling.

Weatherford, a first-time competitor in the event, barely managed to snatch victory from last year’s second-place winner Chris Reed. The event was a virtual dead heat until the last event when Weatherford scored a faster time in the endurance event. Chris Reed of Thompson Station, Tenn., came in second place for the second year-in-a-row. The 2009 first-place winner, Tom Boatwright of Perdido, Ala., placed third in this year’s event.

Now in its seventh year, the Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge presented by Mobil 1 is widely celebrated as the country’s premier competition for sportsmen. In April, the finalists began their journey alongside thousands of outdoorsmen and -women competing at local qualifiers at Bass Pro Shops around the country. The top 200 local qualifiers were chosen to compete at one of four regional events. The top three from each regional event, along with one wildcard winner, and the top three competitors from 2009 advanced to Total Outdoorsman Championship to compete for the bragging rights, cash, and prizes.
